The Saint Barnabas Health Care System and Felician College garnered grant support from the Wachovia Foundation to establish a Clinical Nursing Residency Program in January 2006. The program began at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ with seven senior Bachelor of Science Degree nursing students participating. “ The beauty of this program is that students gain practical knowledge at the bedside, something they do not experience in the classroom setting,” said Nancy Holecek, R.N. Senior Vice President for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.

In this unique 15-week program, nursing students are assigned to a registered staff nurse who serves as their program preceptor during their once-a-week, 13-hour shift, thereby enabling each nursing resident to gain valuable insight into a nurse’s caseload.

Successful Clinical Nurse Residency Program participants are actively recruited for nursing positions within the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
